Liliana Perez, a 6th grader, is breaking barriers in baseball as she pursues her dreams of playing the sport professionally. The Texas Rangers Baseball Club has been making efforts to provide equal opportunities for girls in baseball, with their girls’ program growing significantly in recent years. National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 7th is a day to celebrate and recognize the achievements of female athletes and to continue rallying for equality both on and off the field. The day serves as an opportunity to encourage and support the latest generation of female athletes while acknowledging the doors that have been opened for them. Jesse Malone, the Manager of Academy Outreach and Education Programs for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club, emphasized the importance of letting young girls know that they are able to play baseball and showcase their skills. Perez expressed her belief that baseball is not just for boys, but for girls as well, and she is determined to prove her talent in the sport. This ongoing effort to promote equal opportunities and support for female athletes is a crucial part of the journey towards gender equality in sports.
