Boston Mayor Wu takes action; Former Governor Bellotti celebrates 101st birthday; fireworks display prepared

The mayor’s office is undergoing changes with the promotion of Ricardo Patrón to deputy chief of staff and Emma Pettit to press secretary. Mayor Michelle Wu praised their experience and leadership qualities in connecting with Boston residents. Patrón will support the mayor’s priorities and coordinate city departments, while Pettit will manage the press office and communicate the administration’s vision.

The promotions come as Deputy Chief of Staff Yusufi Vali is leaving to attend to family matters. Patrón, who immigrated from Mexico as a child, has previous experience as a teacher and case manager before joining city government. Pettit, a Dorchester native, has worked in the press office for five years and will now lead the team in conveying the mayor’s policies to the public.

In other news, former Attorney General Frank Bellotti celebrated his 101st birthday with a gathering at Victory Point in Quincy, attended by notable guests like Legal Analyst Rikki Klieman and Mayor Thomas Koch. Bellotti, a Navy Seal veteran, has had a long and distinguished political career in Massachusetts.

Additionally, Navy veteran Herb Chambers, a Dorchester native, is sponsoring the 50th-anniversary Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on July Fourth. The event will feature The Mavericks & Kelli O’Hara, alongside favorites from the Boston Pops, the 1812 Overture, and the Mugar Family Fireworks over the Charles River.
