The Forward Party, led by Andrew Yang, is aiming to gain formal party recognition in Massachusetts. Former Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey highlighted the need for a new party that could provide an alternative for voters dissatisfied with the current political landscape. Sean Diamond, a leader in the Forward Party, expressed optimism about the organization’s future growth in the state.
To achieve official party status in Massachusetts, the Forward Party must either have a candidate receive at least three percent of the vote in an election or register one percent of the state’s total number of voters. While this may prove to be a challenge, the party has already achieved recognition in other states like Florida, South Carolina, Colorado, and Utah.
However, some political analysts, like Evan Falchuk of the United Independent Party, are skeptical of the Forward Party’s chances for success. Falchuk believes that voters are more inclined to remain independent rather than join a third party. He also pointed out the difficulties faced by third parties in terms of fundraising and organization.
Despite these challenges, the Forward Party is taking steps to become a political designation in Massachusetts, allowing voters to register with the group. This status falls below full party recognition but still provides a platform for political engagement. With its unique approach to combining ideas from both major parties, the Forward Party aims to offer a fresh perspective to Massachusetts voters.
