Three top prospects from the Boston Red Sox have been chosen to participate in the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game. Shortstop Marcelo Mayer and catcher Kyle Teel will join outfielder Roman Anthony in representing the Red Sox on the American League roster. Anthony has been named as an inactive selection but may be added to the active roster if needed as an injury replacement.
The trio, known as the ‘Big Three’ within the Red Sox organization, are highly regarded prospects who are having impressive seasons. Mayer, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 draft, is batting .307 in Portland. Teel, the No. 14 overall pick in last summer’s draft, has quickly climbed the ranks and is batting .302 in Double-A. Anthony, a second-round pick in 2022, reached Double-A at just 19 years old last fall.
All three prospects rank within the top 25 of MLB Pipeline’s latest prospect rankings, with Anthony at No. 7, Mayer at 14, and Teel at 25. The MLB All-Star Futures Game will feature the top young talents in baseball and will take place on Saturday, July 13 at 4 p.m. ET at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Mayer had previously been selected to the 2023 Futures Game as well.
This exciting news highlights the promising future of the Boston Red Sox as they showcase their top prospects on a national stage in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.
