Boston Bruins prospect Matt Poitras has been focusing on adding size and strength this offseason after his previous season was cut short by a shoulder injury. At 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, Poitras felt he was undersized last year and wants to be better prepared to face off against larger opponents. During his time off the ice rehabilitating his shoulder, Poitras worked on adding weight and muscle to his frame. He estimates that he has gained about 8 or 9 pounds and feels stronger and thicker as a result. His goal is to be able to win more one-on-one battles and come out with the puck against bigger players. Poitras is currently participating in the Bruins’ development camp and is feeling good and healthy. He plans to continue training in Boston through July, then return to Ontario for a few weeks before heading back to prepare for training camp in August. Poitras hopes that his increased size and strength will help him stay healthy and be more effective on the ice during the upcoming season.
