Israel bombards Gaza’s ‘safe zone’, threatening lives in ongoing conflict | Latest updates on Israel-Palestine clashes

An Israeli air strike in Gaza’s Khan Younis, a city in the south of the enclave, killed at least seven people and severely damaged a residential building next to the main medical center. The strike also hit a school-turned-shelter for displaced people, adding to the already dire situation for the 250,000 residents affected by the Israeli military’s evacuation order for the city. Displaced families have struggled to find shelter in overcrowded areas, and the European Hospital has been put out of service due to Israeli bombardment.

According to the UN, Gaza is the only place in the world where people cannot find a safe refuge and bombings occur even in designated safe zones. The situation has led to widespread internal displacement, with nine out of every 10 people in Gaza being displaced at least once, if not multiple times. The lack of food and supplies getting into Gaza due to the ongoing offensive has exacerbated hunger and fears of famine among the population.

The head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories emphasized the dire circumstances facing the people of Gaza, with many feeling as though they are living in unbearable conditions. Displaced Palestinians expressed frustration and exhaustion, with one individual stating that if they are going to be killed, they would prefer it to happen quickly rather than continue suffering. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has left many in a desperate and precarious situation, with limited access to critical resources and services.
