New Developments in Israel-Gaza Conflict: Ceasefire Hopes Rise with US Support for ‘Breakthrough’ Proposal


Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and top Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya recently met to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and ceasefire negotiations. The meeting also focused on proposals aimed at ending the aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The White House described the latest Hamas ceasefire proposal as a “breakthrough” but noted that negotiations are ongoing.

The Biden administration received the latest Hamas offer and discussed it with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call. Netanyahu’s security cabinet convened to discuss the proposal, and a negotiating team is being sent to Qatar for talks with US, Egyptian, and Qatari mediators.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, six Palestinians were killed in an Israeli military offensive in Jenin. The military said it had encircled a building where militants were barricaded, and strikes were conducted in the area.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of potential further disruption to health services in Gaza due to a severe lack of fuel. The limited fuel supplies entering Gaza are being directed to key hospitals to prevent services from halting completely.

At the University of Birmingham, there is a legal battle over a pro-Palestine encampment on its grounds, with the university seeking a possession order to evict the protesters. One defendant claims that granting the university possession would discriminate against her protected beliefs and interfere with her rights to freedom of speech and assembly.
