A Boston man, Manuel Cardoso, 44, is facing charges of assault and attempted kidnapping of a child after allegedly grabbing a boy by the back of the neck at a Fourth of July gathering in Dorchester. Witnesses reported to Boston police that Cardoso entered the driveway of a home where the party was taking place and tried to urinate on the house. He then began speaking to children on the property and attempted to drag a boy towards the street. Bystanders intervened and removed Cardoso from the property before he fled the scene.
Police located and arrested Cardoso in the area, and he is now facing charges of assault and battery on a child under 14 as well as kidnapping charges. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
