Worcester WooSox catcher Mickey Gasper has earned the nickname “Babe Gasper” from his teammates due to his impressive batting performance since his promotion to Triple-A Worcester. Gasper, raised in New Hampshire and a former Yankees fan, has been a standout with a .410 batting average, .500 OBP, and .672 slugging percentage in 17 games. His success can be attributed to his clear mindset and sticking to his process.
Gasper, originally drafted by the Yankees, has thrived in Worcester after a tough stretch in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year. Despite the competition for playing time in Worcester, Gasper’s versatility allows him to move between catching, playing first base, and DHing to keep his hot bat in the lineup.
Gasper credits hitting coaches Rich Gedman and Doug Clark for his confidence and success and appreciates the camaraderie in the Worcester clubhouse. The WooSox fell 4-2 to the Mets on Friday night, with Gasper coming close to tying the game in the ninth inning but falling just short.
Looking ahead, Cooper Criswell will make his first start for the WooSox since June 27, followed by Bryan Mata’s first appearance at Polar Park this season. With Gasper’s continued success at the plate and strong pitching performances, Worcester looks to bounce back on the field against the Syracuse Mets.
