Rafael Devers reaches milestone with 1,000th career hit, including home run off Gerrit Cole

Boston Red Sox player Rafael Devers made history on Saturday by becoming the sixth Red Sox player to reach 1,000 hits before turning 28 years old. Devers achieved this milestone with a RBI single off of Yankees ace Gerrit Cole in the third inning. He then added to his impressive performance by hitting a solo home run off Cole in the fifth inning, marking his eighth career home run off the pitcher.

Manager Alex Cora praised Devers for his accomplishments, calling him a “special hitter” and the face of the franchise. Despite his success against Cole, Devers remained humble, acknowledging the difficulty of facing the talented pitcher.

Devers’ home run celebration included a bat flip and a wave to Boston’s bullpen, which did not sit well with Cole. However, Devers defended his actions, stating that it was just part of the game.

Overall, Devers’ performance against Cole showcased his talent and ability as a standout player in the league. With a .333 batting average and a stunning 1.370 OPS against Cole, Devers continues to impress fans and teammates alike with his hitting prowess.
