Retired Hall of Fame wide receiver attempts comeback at 48 to join Tom Brady, but is disregarded

Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens recently claimed that he could have helped quarterback Tom Brady win an eighth Super Bowl if Brady had accepted his offer to play alongside him during the 2021 season. Owens, who was 48 at the time, revealed that he tried to reach out to Brady after Antonio Brown left the Buccaneers, leaving the team in need of a receiver. Despite his attempts to contact Brady through a mutual contact, Owens says that Brady ignored him.

Owens stated that he was willing to play a limited role, specifically on third downs and in the red zone, similar to the role that Brown was playing at the time. Owens even went as far as to publicly offer his services on social media. However, the Buccaneers ultimately chose not to bring Owens on board, leading Owens to accuse Brady of “arrogance” and a “lack of respect.”

Ultimately, the Buccaneers went on to lose in the Divisional Round of the playoffs to the Rams. Despite not joining the team, Owens believes that he could have made a significant impact and helped Brady secure another Super Bowl victory.

Throughout his career, Owens was known for his exceptional talent and longevity in the NFL, playing a total of 15 seasons and ranking third in NFL history in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. While his offer to the Buccaneers may have been declined, Owens did return to professional football in the spring of 2022, playing in the Fan Controlled Football league.
