Nikita Zadorov, the newest member of the Boston Bruins, has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be called “Big Z” out of respect for former Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. Zadorov, who signed with the Bruins during NHL free agency, expressed his admiration for Chara and his desire to meet the legendary defenseman. Chara, who spent 14 seasons with the Bruins and won a Stanley Cup in 2011, retired as a member of the franchise and is known for his incredible fitness regimen even in retirement.

He believes that Chara’s commitment to his training regimen is what allowed him to play at such a high level for so long and earn the respect of his peers. Zadorov, standing at 6-foot-6, adds size and physicality to the Bruins’ blue line and will complement the team’s existing defensemen.
