The 13th annual Wally Seaver Invitational was held at the Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton, bringing together eight regional high school basketball teams for a greater cause. The event raises money to raise awareness and find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
In an exciting matchup, St. Mary’s (Lynn) dominated the paint to claim the Pink Division championship with a 46-37 victory over Foxboro. The Spartans were one of four teams to win titles at the event, with Whitman-Hanson (Purple Division), Abington (Navy Division), and Oliver Ames (Orange Division) also taking home championships.
PJ Norton, an AAU coach with the MCW Stars, was in attendance to support the Spartans and raise awareness for ALS. The event, split into two tournaments in Foxboro and Stoughton, is expected to have raised around $10k-15k for ALS research.
The tournament also featured the Coaches Ice Bucket Challenge and a 32-mile walk by Wally Seaver’s son, Paul, and his wife, Whitney Howe-Seaver. The event saw a good turnout and strong participation from teams, marking a successful year for the invitational.
The Seaver Invitational continues to honor the memory of Wally Seaver and support ALS research, with organizers and participants working together to make a difference in the fight against this disease.
