Southwick’s Select Board is currently faced with the task of awarding two retail cannabis permits out of four applicants. Select Board member Diane Gale advocated for interviewing only the top three applicants after their applications have been scored by the board, despite resistance from the other members.
Gale firmly stated, “You’re not going to convince me otherwise,” while fellow board member Douglas Moglin initially believed that all four applicants should be interviewed. He expressed concerns that some applicants may appear strong on paper but other factors should be taken into consideration.
The decision to conduct interviews after scoring the applications will allow the board to gain a better understanding of the top three applicants and make a more informed decision on awarding the permits. This process will ensure that the most qualified candidates are chosen to operate retail cannabis establishments in the town of Southwick.
