Former Stoughton Select Board member David Sousa was tragically killed in a crash on Route 24 in West Bridgewater while working as a MassDOT worker on Saturday night. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office confirmed that a motorist struck and fatally injured Sousa while he was picking up debris on the highway near exit 28B. The driver remained on the scene.

David Sousa, aged 57, was described as a dedicated and passionate public servant by the Chair of the Select Board, Stephen Cavey. Sousa’s untimely death has left a void in the community and his family, and Stoughton will be honoring his contributions by flying flags at half mast.

The incident is still under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, and MassDOT has not yet provided a comment on the matter. The tragic loss of David Sousa serves as a reminder of the fragility of life, as the community mourns his passing and offers support to his loved ones during this difficult time. The Stoughton community is left grieving the loss of a beloved husband, father, and dedicated public servant.
