BOSTON – The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, leaving teams like the Red Sox with their final roster heading into the home stretch of the season. The Red Sox, who are currently one game behind the Royals for the final American League wild card spot, have been active in trades leading up to the deadline. They completed a total of four trades in the five days before the deadline, including acquiring SP James Paxton, C Danny Jansen, SP/RP Quinn Priester, RP Lucas Sims, and RP Luis Garcia.
Paxton, who was acquired from the Dodgers, and Jansen, who came from the Blue Jays, are expected to provide immediate contributions to the team. They also acquired Priester from the Pirates and hope to see him develop into a long-term starting pitcher.
Additionally, Sims from the Reds and Garcia from the Angels are veteran relievers who will bolster the Red Sox bullpen as they make a push for a playoff spot.
In exchange for these acquisitions, the Red Sox gave up several minor league prospects, including Cutter Coffey, Eddison Paulino, Gilberto Batista, Nick Yorke, Matthew Lugo, Niko Kavadas, Ryan Zeferjahn, and Yeferson Vargas.
The Red Sox hope that these trades will help them solidify their postseason aspirations and secure a spot in this year’s playoffs. With these new additions, the team looks to make a strong push towards contention in the closing months of the season.
