Protests break out following assassination of Hamas’ top political leader

Protesters from Pakistan to Lebanon have come together to condemn the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Iran. The public demonstrations in Ramallah, Tehran, and Tyre have seen hundreds of people showing their support for Hamas and denouncing Israel and America with chants of “death to Israel” and “death to America.” In Tehran, hard-line government supporters condemned the killing, while in Lebanon, people from the Palestinian refugee camp al-Bass showed their solidarity with Hamas by carrying images of Haniyeh and Hamas spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin.

In Karachi, Pakistan, two protests were organized by religious political parties, with demonstrators carrying posters of Haniyeh and chanting “Muslims will win” and “the war will end with Israel’s destruction.” The protests come as international efforts are being made to bring Israel and Hamas to agree to a ceasefire and ease tensions after months of cross-border fighting.

Jihad Taha, a spokesperson for Hamas, addressed the crowd in Tyre, saying that the “Zionist occupation” would not be able to break the will of the Palestinian people. He also stated that the aggression against Gaza would end in failure. The protests show the widespread support for Hamas and the Palestinian cause across different countries, as people come together to denounce the killing of Haniyeh and show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
