Public hearing on Southwick electric aggregation program to be held by Mass. DPU

Southwick residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the town’s application for a municipal electric aggregation program during a public hearing hosted by the state Department of Public Utilities on Monday, August 5 at 10 a.m. The program, if approved, would allow the town to negotiate on behalf of residents for lower electricity rates as an alternative to Eversource.

Select Board member Jason Perron had previously mentioned that the program could potentially lower residents’ electric bills by providing locked-in rates for a period of time. However, Perron was not available to answer questions regarding the program or the upcoming hearing when contacted by The Westfield News.

The public hearing over Zoom will offer residents the chance to voice their opinions and concerns about the municipal aggregation program before a decision is made by the Department of Public Utilities. The program aims to provide residents with more affordable electricity options while still maintaining the same level of service.

Southwick residents are encouraged to attend the virtual public hearing to learn more about the potential benefits of the municipal aggregation program and to participate in the decision-making process. Stay tuned for updates on the outcome of the hearing and the status of Southwick’s application for approval from the state Department of Public Utilities.
