11 months into war, Palestinians in Gaza continue to face challenges accessing food and clean water

Despite being nearly 11 months into the war, Palestinians in Gaza are still struggling to access food and clean water due to Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas. The entry of much-needed aid has been restricted, leaving families to rely on makeshift charity kitchens for survival. These families wait in line for hours every day in the scorching heat to receive a main meal of mainly rice, with chicken provided only once a week. Abu Hamzah, who runs a charity kitchen in Deir al-Balah, estimates that between 8,000 and 10,000 displaced people benefit from his services.

Access to water has also become a daily challenge, as wells in Gaza have been destroyed in Israeli airstrikes. Palestinians in Deir al-Balah must queue for hours to fill their bottles with water from barrels. Displaced individuals such as Um Yehia Shaheen and Mohamed Hanounah live in dire circumstances, with Mohamed stating that their lives are so difficult that even donkeys in Gaza have better living conditions.

The ongoing conflict has not only led to a humanitarian crisis in Gaza but has also significantly disrupted the lives of the Palestinian people. The international community has called for an end to the violence and for the immediate delivery of aid to those in need. As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, it is crucial that efforts are made to prioritize the well-being and safety of the civilian population.
