A dormouse caused a power cut at Frankfurt Airport during the night, resulting in limited flight delays and cancellations. The energy company Syna reported that the rodent triggered a short-circuit at an electricity substation around 10:45 p.m. on Monday. The airport’s fire service was deployed due to resulting smoke, and power was restored around 3:20 a.m. The dormouse was found dead next to the wire it had gnawed. Although the incident had a limited effect on air traffic, with only eleven cancellations reported on Tuesday morning, delays and cancellations were still expected as a result of the technical problem. The airport operator Fraport advised passengers to check for updates on flight statuses due to the disruptions. The adorable but troublesome dormouse certainly caused quite a stir at Frankfurt Airport, highlighting the delicate balance between wildlife and infrastructure.
