24 dogs relocated to Salem before Tropical Storm Debby to ensure safety

MSPCA-Angell is reaching out for assistance as they prepare to welcome 24 dogs and 19 cats evacuated from South Carolina due to Tropical Storm Debby. The animals will arrive at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, with the dogs ranging in age from 5 months to 3 years old. By evacuating these animals, space is made available for South Carolina organizations to take in pets affected by the storm. Mike Keiley, VP of Animal Protection at MSPCA-Angell, estimated that caring for the evacuees will cost around $5,000. The organization is urging the public to donate to help cover these expenses. To accommodate the new arrivals, MSPCA-Angell will be hosting an emergency adoptathon, waiving adoption fees for dogs one year and older from Wednesday to Saturday. With limited space for additional dogs, they are also utilizing their emergency foster network. Keiley emphasized the importance of finding permanent homes quickly due to the ongoing dog population crisis. While these evacuated animals were not directly impacted by the storm, MSPCA-Angell is stepping in to provide them with the care and support they need. Donations can be made on the MSPCA website to help offset the costs of caring for these displaced animals.
