The Worcester Red Sox defeated the Syracuse Mets 6-3 behind a strong start by Richard Fitts and a six-run third inning. Triston Casas continued his rehab assignment with Worcester, recording a hit and scoring a run. Luke Ritter got Syracuse on the board with a two-run homer, but Mickey Gasper responded with a two-run shot of his own. Gasper’s hitting streak extended to nine games as he raised his Triple-A batting average to .392. Casas, Eddy Alvarez, and Nathan Hickey also contributed to Worcester’s third inning scoring. Fitts held the Mets offense in check, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. Greg Weissert and Wyatt Olds pitched in relief to secure the win for the WooSox. Fitts earned his sixth win of the year, while Brandon Sproat took the loss in his Triple-A debut.
The two teams will face off again on Friday night, with Brad Keller starting for Worcester and Blade Tidwell starting for Syracuse. The game will be broadcast on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. Worcester now holds a record of 17-19 for the season.
