Celine Dion criticizes Trump campaign for using ‘Titanic’ theme song without permission – NBC New York

Canadian singer Celine Dion criticized former President Donald Trump for playing her song “My Heart Will Go On” at his Montana campaign rally without permission. Dion’s management team released a statement stating that the use of the song was not authorized and that Dion does not endorse the campaign. The team also mocked the choice of song, given its association with a movie about a sinking ship, prompting social media backlash.

The Trump campaign used the song at a rally in Bozeman, Montana, where he targeted his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, Harris has been using Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” during her campaign events, with Beyoncé reportedly granting permission for its use.

The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment on the matter. Dion’s management and Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc. were made aware of the unauthorized use of the song on Saturday, leading to the statement from Dion’s team denouncing the use of her music. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of musicians objecting to their songs being used without permission at political events.
