Debby’s Forecast Predicts Continued Rainfall: View Images of the Damage

The remnants of Hurricane Debby continued to impact New England over the weekend, with the National Weather Service forecasting 1 to 2 inches of rain and the potential for flash flooding. The storm, now downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, has already caused at least nine deaths along the East Coast, including in West Virginia where a woman was killed by a falling tree. Storm alerts were issued in various states, with reports of flooded homes and submerged vehicles. The storm initially made landfall in Florida as a category 1 hurricane before moving through the southeast and causing flooding in South Carolina and Georgia. The storm also had effects as far north as New York City, where flights were temporarily grounded and a travel advisory was issued due to potential flooding. In Maine, the NWS warned of thunderstorms and heavy rain from a cold front enhanced by the remnants of Debby. The storm also posed dangers along the northeastern coast, with large swells resulting in life-threatening surf and rip currents. Despite its weakening status, the impact of Debby was still being felt in New England as emergency declarations and rescue operations continued in affected areas.
