Worcester Red Sox and Syracuse Mets Split Doubleheader on Saturday

The Worcester Red Sox split a doubleheader against the Syracuse Mets on Saturday afternoon. The WooSox won the first game 5-4 with home runs from Nathan Hickey and Mickey Gasper, but the Mets took the nightcap 5-2 with a three-run sixth inning. Triston Casas continued his rehab assignment with Worcester, while Quinn Priester pitched well in his second start with the team. Gasper extended his hitting streak to 11 games and has been on fire at the plate with 11 walks and five strikeouts during this stretch.

In the second game, Worcester jumped to an early lead, but the Mets came back to win with a late offensive surge. Luke Ritter made a key defensive play to help the WooSox maintain their narrow lead, but the Mets ultimately pulled ahead in the sixth inning. Worcester was unable to rally in the seventh inning, settling for their eighth split of the season.

The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium with Jason Alexander starting for the WooSox against Tylor Megill for Syracuse. The WooSox will look to bounce back and secure a series win after a competitive doubleheader on Saturday.
