The Secret Service inadvertently caused a stir at the Four One Three Salon in Pittsfield during Kamala Harris’s visit in late July. The salon owner, Alicia Powers, reported that Secret Service agents broke into the salon, used the restroom, taped over security cameras, and left the door unlocked. Powers was on vacation at the time and only noticed the intrusion through security camera alerts. She later notified the Pittsfield Police and the Secret Service’s Boston office reached out to apologize and offer to cover any damages or cleaning expenses.
Harris was in Pittsfield for a fundraising event at the Colonial Theatre, located across from the salon. Powers expressed concern over the security breach and potential impacts on her business, as the door was left unlocked for hours. While she appreciated the apology and accountability from the Secret Service, she emphasized that the incident posed a real threat to her livelihood.
The Secret Service spokesperson stated that they value their relationships with businesses and would not enter without permission, and that they take full responsibility for the situation. Powers accepted the apology but raised questions about the safety of her business during the time the door was left unlocked. The incident highlighted the importance of communication and respect for property owners during security operations.
