‘According to Maura Healey, using taxpayer dollars for luxury hotel stays is deemed an acceptable expense’

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey defended the thousands of dollars her office spent on stays at luxury hotels with taxpayer-funded credit cards, saying it was an “appropriate expenditure.” She has traveled extensively for meetings with political and business leaders, staying at four and five-star hotels during these trips. One such expense was a $2,500 charge for lodging at the Le Chateau Frontenac during a conference in Quebec. Healey also stayed at the Marriott Le Meridien Visconti in Rome, where she met with Pope Francis, with the trip costing over $30,000. These expenses were covered by the Massachusetts Tourism Trust Fund. Healey emphasized the importance of these trips for building trade and geopolitical alliances, stating that she was honored to attend important events like the climate summit in Italy. Despite criticism, Healey maintains that these expenditures were necessary and justified.
