Ex-Patriots Player to Join Bill O’Brien’s Coaching Staff at BC

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Tre Nixon has announced his retirement from the NFL and revealed his next career move as a coach at Boston College. Nixon, also known as “Coach Nix”, made the announcement on Instagram, expressing his gratitude to God. He joins the BC staff under the leadership of new head coach Bill O’Brien, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Patriots.

Nixon had a successful college career at Ole Miss and UCF, before being drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round in 2021. Despite showing promise during training camp, Nixon never played in a game during his three seasons with the Patriots, spending time on the practice squad and injured reserve. Following his retirement in July, Nixon has now transitioned to coaching at Boston College.

O’Brien, a Massachusetts native, had worked with Nixon during his second stint as offensive coordinator with the Patriots in 2023. After leaving New England, O’Brien briefly joined Ohio State as offensive coordinator before accepting the head coaching position at Boston College earlier this year.

Nixon’s decision to join the coaching staff at Boston College marks a new chapter in his career after retiring from the NFL. With his experience both as a player and under the guidance of O’Brien, Nixon’s role as a coach at BC is sure to bring valuable insights and mentorship to the team.
