Additionally, Harris proposed a federal ban on grocery price gouging, although grocery prices have only increased by 1.1% in the past year. She also aims to address housing shortages by building 3 million new homes and providing $25,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers. However, increasing demand through subsidies may exacerbate the existing housing shortage issue, despite efforts to incentivize builders.
While Harris plans to streamline regulations to encourage new construction, the housing shortage is influenced by various factors such as zoning laws, building material costs, and labor shortages.
