Live Coverage: Trump Weighs Endorsing Expanded Child Tax Credit Following Harris’s Economic Proposal in 2024 US Elections

President Trump is reportedly considering endorsing an expanded $5,000 child tax credit for parents of all income levels, according to an official from his campaign. This news comes after VP candidate Kamala Harris announced her own plan for a $6,000 child tax credit, while Trump’s running mate, Senator Vance, proposed a $5,000 child tax credit during a recent interview. Both campaigns are engaging with young voters through social media platforms like TikTok.

In response to Harris’s economic proposals, Trump’s campaign announced that Vance will deliver remarks on the economy in Philadelphia, where he is expected to criticize the vice president’s plans. Harris, in her speech, vowed to expand a poverty-fighting child tax credit that was credited with reducing child poverty by half in 2021. She also announced a plan to build 3 million new affordable homes and rentals for the middle class by the end of her first term.

Meanwhile, Vance’s campaign hit a brief snag when his plane made an emergency landing in Milwaukee due to a malfunctioning door. However, the campaign spokesperson confirmed that the issue was resolved, and the plane continued on its planned route. In response to the emergency landing, Vance held a campaign event at a police union office in Milwaukee.

The upcoming election is heating up, with both campaigns announcing economic proposals aimed at benefiting families, particularly through child tax credits. It remains to be seen how these proposals will impact voters’ decisions in the upcoming election.
