Maye guides Patriots to 2 scoring drives in preseason defeat against Eagles

Rookie quarterback Drake Maye showcased his skills in the New England Patriots’ preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, leading the team on two scoring drives and running for a touchdown. Despite Maye’s efforts, the Patriots ultimately fell short in a close 14-13 loss to the Eagles.

The game also highlighted the competition at kicker between Joey Slye and incumbent Chad Ryland, with Slye kicking two field goals for the Patriots. The Eagles mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, taking the lead with a touchdown from rookie running back Kendall Milton and a successful 2-point conversion.

Maye replaced projected Week 1 starter Jacoby Brissett and impressed the crowd at Gillette Stadium with his performance. Although Maye had a few hiccups, including a fumbled exchange, he showed promise as a potential future starter for the team.

The Eagles opted to sit starting QB Jalen Hurts for the second preseason game, giving backup Kenny Pickett playing time. The Patriots defense put on a solid performance, recording four sacks on Pickett in the first half.

Overall, the game offered fans a glimpse into the Patriots’ roster depth and potential lineup adjustments as they gear up for the regular season. Both teams will continue their preseason preparations in upcoming matchups, with the Eagles hosting the Minnesota Vikings and the Patriots traveling to face the Washington Football Team on August 25th.
