167,000 pounds of Perdue chicken nuggets recalled due to metal wire found in some packages

Perdue Foods is recalling over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders due to potential contamination with metal wire. The affected products include Perdue Breaded Chicken Tenders, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets, and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets. The company issued the recall after receiving customer complaints and finding a thin strand of metal wire in some packages.

While there have been no reported injuries or adverse reactions, the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned that the products may still be in consumers’ freezers. The impacted products have a best buy date of March 23, 2025, and establishment number “P-33944” on the package. Consumers are advised to either throw away the recalled chicken or return it to the store for a refund.

This recall highlights the ongoing issue of foreign object contamination in packaged foods, which can include not just metal but also plastic, rocks, insects, and more. Perdue is offering full refunds to affected consumers and can be reached at 866-866-3703 for assistance. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, with Tyson Foods recalling chicken nuggets last November due to metal pieces found in the products. Food safety remains a top priority as authorities work to prevent such incidents and protect consumers from potential harm.
