The Worcester Red Sox emerged victorious in a high-scoring game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Polar Park on Sunday. The WooSox celebrated Puerto Rican Heritage Day by becoming Los Wepas de Worcester and honored Roberto Clemente’s 90th birthday. Eddy Alvarez and Roman Anthony contributed early runs, with Worcester taking a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The IronPigs fought back, scoring three runs in the third to make it a close game. Liam Hendriks made his first rehab appearance with the WooSox, pitching a perfect inning. However, Wyatt Olds struggled in relief, allowing Lehigh Valley to take a 7-5 lead. Worcester rallied in the seventh inning, tying the game and taking the lead with a big hit from Bobby Dalbec. Brian Van Belle shut down the IronPigs in the final two innings to secure the WooSox’ 10-8 victory. Luis Guerrero earned the win, while Zach Haake took the loss for Lehigh Valley. The WooSox will hit the road to face the Norfolk Tides after a day off on Monday, with Shane Drohan set to start on the mound for Worcester.
