The Worcester Railers, a proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, teamed up with the Worcester Railers Booster Club to donate over 200 backpacks to the Friendly House of Worcester in preparation for the upcoming school year. The backpacks were purchased and assembled by the Booster Club and will be distributed at the Friendly House Backpack Giveaway event this Friday. In addition to the backpacks, the event will include free haircuts, an ice cream truck, food, music, face painting, and more as part of their Back-to-School Bash.
The Friendly House Executive Director expressed gratitude for the Railers’ continued support and highlighted the impact of these donations on families who may be struggling with back-to-school expenses. This marks the 18th year that the Railers and Booster Club have joined forces to provide backpacks for the Friendly House, setting a new record this year with 216 bags donated.
The Worcester Railers and Booster Club have a longstanding history of community service, not only with the backpack donation but also with annual food and toy drives during Thanksgiving and the holiday season. The Booster Club President emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and supporting organizations like the Friendly House.
Railers leadership, including general manager Nick Tuzzolino and captain Anthony Repaci, delivered the backpacks to the Friendly House on Monday morning, kicking off a new year of community involvement. The Railers’ chief operating officer highlighted the importance of collaborating with the Booster Club to support organizations like the Friendly House that do valuable work for the Worcester community.
