Grisham, who also served as Melania Trump’s chief of staff, joined the Trump campaign in 2015 and had previous experience in Arizona politics and on Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. She cited Trump’s lack of empathy, morals, and truthfulness as reasons for her change in party allegiance. Grisham became the first senior staffer to resign from the Trump Administration following the January 6th Capitol insurrection. At the DNC, she shared insights into working under Trump and criticized his approach to communication. The convention, with the theme “For the People, For Our Future,” featured various speakers, including Barack and Michelle Obama. It took place at the United Center in Chicago and was livestreamed on the convention website and YouTube. Nightly themes included “A Bold Vision for America’s Future” and “A Fight for our Freedoms.” Grisham’s unexpected appearance and endorsement of Harris reflected a notable shift in her political beliefs and a willingness to openly criticize Trump on a national stage.
