Third Massachusetts State Lottery winner in six months: $1M ticket sold at Nantucket diner

A Nantucket diner has become known as a “lucky place” for lottery players after an islander claimed a winning $1 million ticket on Tuesday, marking the third time in the past six months that a million-dollar ticket was sold at the restaurant. Sean Durnin, a Nantucket resident, claimed his prize in Dorchester from the ” $10,000,000 Bonanza” scratch ticket game released earlier this month.

This was the first $1 million prize won in the game, with five more $1 million prizes and three $10 million prizes still up for grabs. The winning ticket was sold at the Old South Diner on the island, making this the third time in three months that a million-dollar prize has been won from tickets purchased at the diner.

Durnin, who is a restaurateur on the island, shared that he bought the winning ticket after stopping at the diner to get a snack while delivering food. After his car seat fell out of his truck on the road, he retraced his route and found it before scratching off his ticket to reveal the $1 million prize.

He plans to put the winnings towards investments for his son, whom he says is his universe along with his wife. The Old South Diner will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, adding to the $30,000 it has already received for selling all of the million-dollar winning tickets. This string of lucky wins has certainly solidified the diner’s reputation as a “lucky place” for lottery players on Nantucket.
