The Boston Red Sox are looking to bolster their struggling bullpen with the return of rookie right-hander Justin Slaten. Slaten, who has been sidelined since July 7 due to elbow inflammation, completed a successful bullpen session on Monday and is set to begin a rehab assignment on Friday. Manager Alex Cora stated that Slaten is expected to pitch one inning during his rehab outing and could potentially be activated shortly after.
The Red Sox have been in need of relief pitching help after a difficult start to the second half of the season from their bullpen. Slaten’s return could provide a much-needed boost to the team as they push for a playoff spot. It remains unclear whether Slaten will make his rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester on the road in Norfolk, Virginia or with Double-A Portland at home.
With Slaten’s promising performance in his bullpen session, there is optimism within the Red Sox organization that he will be able to make a meaningful impact upon his return. Fans can look forward to seeing the talented rookie back on the mound soon as the team looks to strengthen their pitching staff for the remainder of the season.
