Suspected robbers ambush and kill at least 11 Pakistani policemen | Crime News

A police convoy was attacked by gunmen armed with rocket-propelled grenades in Pakistan’s Punjab province, resulting in the death of at least 11 officers and injuries to seven others. The ambush took place in the Rahim Yar Khan district’s Kacha town, an area known to have criminal hideouts. The officers were on patrol in search of robbers when they were attacked, with authorities believing that the gunmen were likely robbers and not members of an armed group.

The attack, one of the deadliest in recent years, was carried out by dozens of heavily armed bandits who evade police in the rural and forested areas along the Indus River. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for immediate and effective action against those responsible for the attack.

Pakistan has seen a rise in attacks by armed groups, with the police convoy ambush and a school van shooting on the same day being the most recent incidents. The motive behind the school van attack, which resulted in the death of two children, is believed to be related to enmity. Pakistan’s government has been facing challenges in dealing with various armed groups operating in different provinces across the country, with some being criminal organizations and others, such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, aiming to overthrow the government.
