The Boston Red Sox faced a tough defeat at Fenway Park against the Arizona Diamondbacks, losing 12-2 in Friday’s series opener. The Diamondbacks dominated the game, scoring five runs off Red Sox starter Brayan Bello before Eugenio Suarez hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. Despite a brief rally by Boston in the first inning, the Diamondbacks continued to build their lead. Bello struggled on the mound, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks over 5.1 innings.
The Red Sox offense couldn’t generate much against Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson, with Rob Refsnyder hitting a solo home run as the only highlight. Pitcher Josh Winckowski also struggled, giving up six runs in three innings of relief. Suarez led the Diamondbacks with five RBI, while Josh Bell contributed three hits and an RBI.
Despite the loss, the Red Sox will have a chance to bounce back in the next game against the Diamondbacks. Kutter Crawford will take the mound for Boston, facing off against Zac Gallen. The Red Sox will need to regroup and find a way to overcome the strong Diamondbacks team to keep their playoff hopes alive.
