The Malden police officer involved in shooting of armed robbery suspect found not guilty

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced on Friday that Malden police officer Amanda Grenier will not face criminal charges for shooting Dominique Long, 31, who was accused of punching and robbing a woman in May 2024. Grenier responded to an altercation involving Long and the woman at 260 Eastern Ave. Long had allegedly thrown a cup and punched the woman before pulling out a knife. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Long advanced towards other officers with the knife, leading Grenier to shoot him.

The Middlesex DA’s office conducted a thorough review and found that Grenier’s actions were reasonable and justified given the imminent danger posed by Long. Long was treated at a hospital and charged with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and other offenses.

The incident highlights the challenges and split-second decisions that law enforcement officers face in potentially dangerous situations. The investigation concluded that Grenier acted in self-defense and to protect fellow officers from harm.

The outcome of this case exemplifies the complexities of law enforcement work and the importance of thorough investigations into the use of force by police officers. The decision not to press charges against Grenier underscores the difficult decisions officers must make in fast-paced and high-stress situations.
