Gun owners in Massachusetts unite to overturn new firearm regulation

Gun owners in Massachusetts are rallying against a new gun law that they believe infringes on Second Amendment rights. The law, signed by Gov. Maura Healey earlier this year, imposes restrictions on residents under 21 owning semiautomatic rifles or shotguns. The campaign aims to push a referendum for the 2026 election to repeal the law.

Co-Founder of Cape Gun Works, Toby Leary, criticized the new statute for being unconstitutional and unclear, making it difficult for individuals to understand and follow the regulations. He argued that the law eroded Second Amendment rights and called for residents to join the effort to repeal it.

Rep. Michael Day, the main architect of the law, defended it as a measure to enhance public safety and reduce gun violence in Massachusetts, which he claimed has the lowest incidence in the country. However, gun owners, including national groups, have opposed the legislation and are preparing for legal challenges to overturn it.

The law also includes provisions to regulate “ghost guns,” untraceable firearms, which activists argue is a scare tactic term. Supporters of the campaign to repeal the law believe that politicians have overreached and violated their constitutional rights.

The Massachusetts Republican Party, in collaboration with gun rights activists, is organizing a campaign to repeal the law, with an official launch expected soon. The effort is gaining momentum as conservative residents and voters express concerns over the government’s infringement on their rights. Gun owners and activists are determined to fight against what they see as an unconstitutional assault on their Second Amendment rights.
