Jarren Duran once again proved himself as the Boston Red Sox’s most valuable player during Tuesday night’s game against the Blue Jays. The center fielder hit a 369-foot home run in the first inning, his 20th of the season, and made key defensive plays to help secure a 6-3 victory for the Red Sox. Duran’s impressive performance also made history as he became the first player with at least 10 triples, 20 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and 40 doubles in a season.
With a fielding WAR of 6.4, Duran surpassed even Rafael Devers to lead the Red Sox in that category. The team took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, further extending it to 6-1 by the fifth inning with contributions from Triston Casas, Wilyer Abreu, and Masataka Yoshida.
Duran’s defensive skills were on full display as well, making a perfect 8-6-2 relay throw to throw out a runner at home and preventing another run with a solid throw from center field to second base. Additionally, Abreu made a key play by throwing out a runner at home plate.
The Red Sox’s victory marked the end of a four-game losing streak. The upcoming game against the Blue Jays will feature a matchup between Chris Bassitt and Brayan Bello, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. This impressive performance from Duran and the rest of the Red Sox team has fans excited for what is to come in the remainder of the season.
