Multiple campers caught fire at a Westmoreland County camper dealership in Allegheny Township, Pennsylvania resulting in explosions and flames. The incident occurred overnight at the Camping World RV Sales location along Rt. 356 with at least 18 campers being damaged or destroyed. Despite the intensity of the flames, no injuries were reported. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
Residents nearby were startled by the loud explosions and bright orange flames that illuminated the area. First responders arrived on the scene quickly after receiving a call at 4:42 a.m. and found several RVs engulfed in flames. Firefighters from 10 companies worked to extinguish the fire and prevent hot spots, fueled by various chemicals from the vehicles.
Authorities reported that the business was closed at the time of the fire, and there is no evidence of foul play. The Allegheny Township Police Chief mentioned the potential risks associated with the campers, including fuel sources, batteries, propane tanks, and gas, which could have contributed to the intensity of the flames.
The State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident in collaboration with local authorities. KDKA reached out to Camping World for comment, but they have not responded at this time. Residents are still shaken by the incident and are grateful that no injuries occurred. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story from KDKA-TV and KDKA.com.
