Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, has been elected unopposed as the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). This makes him the youngest-ever person to hold this prestigious position. Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar praised Shah’s appointment, expressing confidence that under his leadership, the world of cricket will flourish even more. Gavaskar highlighted Shah’s achievements during his tenure as BCCI secretary, including the launch of the Women’s Premier League, equalizing fees for Indian women international cricketers, increasing pension for retired cricketers, introducing incentives for Test and white-ball internationals, and implementing prize money for domestic tournaments. Gavaskar commended Shah for his efforts to advance Indian cricket and believed that he will bring similar success to the ICC. Shah’s contributions also led to the establishment of the state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Gavaskar emphasized that previous ICC presidents from India have significantly developed the game and increased revenues for the ICC and its member countries, suggesting that Shah will continue this positive trend. With Shah’s track record and dedication to the sport, Gavaskar expects the world of cricket to thrive during his term as the ICC chairman.
