After roaming a Worcester neighborhood for 555 days, a dog named Roxy was finally rescued by volunteers from Missing Dogs Massachusetts earlier this month. Roxy, a rescue from Tennessee, went missing just days after arriving in Worcester in February of 2023. Bernice Gero, a volunteer with the organization, had been working tirelessly to trap Roxy since she went missing, setting up traps and tracking her movements. Despite various attempts to lure her into traps, Roxy remained elusive until May, when a trap was finally set up in a local yard. Gero described Roxy as incredibly smart and experienced with traps, making her capture a challenge. It took months to acclimate her to the trap, but on August 18th, Roxy was finally caught and is now staying with a foster as she recovers from her ordeal. Gero praised Roxy for her sweet temperament despite everything she had been through. This was the longest Gero had ever worked to trap a dog, emphasizing that the process was on Roxy’s terms and required patience and understanding. Roxy’s journey back home serves as a heartwarming tale of perseverance and compassion in the face of adversity.
