A controlled explosion on a film set near the O2 arena in London led to a fire that destroyed a van, as well as damaging a car and lorry. The London Fire Brigade quickly responded to the incident in Silvertown, with 25 firefighters working to extinguish the blaze, which was under control just over an hour later with no reported injuries.
The fire followed a pre-planned filming event near the O2 arena, where concerts by Niall Horan and Texas were set to take place. The Met police assured the public that there was no risk to them, as the explosions were part of the filming event in the Canning Town area.
Witnesses shared videos of the fire on social media, with some noting that there were small explosions before the fire started. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that the fire was caused by a controlled explosion at the film set, which spread out of control.
The open-air yard in Dock Road where the fire occurred is also near to London’s cable car link across the River Thames. The impact of the fire resulted in the destruction of a van, as well as damage to a car and lorry at the scene.
Overall, the quick response of the firefighters led to the fire being brought under control, but crews remained on the scene for the remainder of the evening. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with controlled explosions on film sets and the importance of safety measures in such situations.
