A joint raid conducted by the US military and Iraqi security forces in western Iraq resulted in the deaths of 15 ISIS fighters and the injury of seven US soldiers. Iraq’s military reported that air strikes targeted ISIS hideouts, resulting in the deaths of key ISIL leaders. Important documents, identification papers, and communication devices were seized during the operation. The US-led coalition’s mission in Iraq and Syria has been extended, with talks on its end date postponed until after the US presidential elections in November. The coalition faces threats from Iran-aligned militias in Iraq and ongoing drone and rocket attacks in both countries.
In recent years, ISIS has been pushed out of its strongholds in Iraq and Syria by a coalition of more than 80 countries. However, remnants of the group remain active, carrying out attacks in remote areas and inspiring violence elsewhere in the world. The joint efforts of the US, Iraq, and their coalition partners continue to target and eliminate ISIS fighters to ensure the safety and security of the region.
