Air Force Academy, Colo. – In a season opener for both teams, Air Force defeated FCS-member Merrimack with a 21-6 victory. Cade Harris scored two short touchdown runs in the first half, giving Air Force a 14-0 lead at halftime. The Falcons’ final score came in the fourth quarter after a turnover by Merrimack. Despite only having 20 more yards of offense than the Warriors, Air Force held Merrimack scoreless until the very last play of the game when the backup quarterback for Merrimack connected with a receiver for an 11-yard touchdown. This victory marks Air Force’s first shutout since November of 2020 in a 28-0 win over New Mexico.
The Falcons’ defense was strong throughout the game, holding Merrimack to only three first downs before halftime and forcing the Warriors to go 0 for 5 on third-down conversions. Air Force’s relentless rushing game proved to be effective in securing the win, with Aiden Calvert scoring the final touchdown from a yard out.
