The Holyoke FTD Caregiver’s Support Group will be holding a virtual Zoom meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for caregivers of those afflicted with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), the most common form of dementia in individuals under age 60 in the U.S. The group aims to help caregivers understand and learn about FTD by sharing stories, ideas, and emotions. Rick’s Place offers free peer grief support groups for youth and their caregivers, providing a space to remember loved ones and avoid isolation. Cancer support groups led by Baystate Health will be offered virtually, including general cancer support, caregiving support, expressive writing, and breast cancer support meetings.
NAMI-WM has resumed virtual Connection Recovery Support Group meetings. They also offer a support group for the LGBTQIA+ community and a new Family and Friends Support group for black and brown communities. NAMI of Western Massachusetts also hosts a Family Support Group in Greenfield.
The Michael J. Dias Foundation provides support for coping with substance use disorder while the Saint Rose de Lima Grief Support Group offers free weekly grief support. The Springfield College Occupational Therapy Department offers a free weekly support group for stroke survivors. Narcotics Anonymous, Survivors of Suicide Loss, and NAMI Family-to-Family Education programs are also available in the area.
The Walk to Defeat ALS Western Massachusetts will take place on Sept. 14, along with the Tom’s Trot event in Wilbraham, a 5k run/walk in memory of Dr. Thomas Julian to raise funds for neurological disease research.
