GayC/DC pays tribute to hard rock icons with special performance by Deep Cuts

GayC/DC, an AC/DC tribute band with an all-gay lineup, is set to perform at Deep Cuts in Medford on Saturday. The band was formed eleven years ago by members of the California-based rock scene, including Chris Freeman of the queercore band Pansy Division. The group came up with the idea after wrapping up their previous band, a Go-Go’s tribute called the Gay Gay’s, and decided to pay homage to the macho hard-rock band AC/DC in a unique way.

While GayC/DC will feature a few lyric changes, the music will be performed straight-up, and the band aims to show visibility and ensure everyone has a good time. Drummer Brian Welch, a Bostonian with experience in the rock scene, highlights the importance of representation and creating a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ fans in the music industry.

Pansy Division, another band that Welch admires for their impact on the LGBTQ+ community, will also be playing a separate show at Faces Brewing Co. in Malden. The band, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their sophomore album “Deflowered,” has been known for their mix of humor and serious messages, including providing safe-sex information in their music to support and empower young fans.

Through their music and performances, both GayC/DC and Pansy Division aim to create a space where LGBTQ+ individuals can feel represented and included in the rock music scene. Don’t miss the chance to catch these iconic bands in action and join in on the celebration of diversity and acceptance in music.
